After years of never cutting myself badly, my knife slipped and I did. I had tried using an onion holder years before and hated it. Too awkward and difficult to cut onion slices through. THIS one is SO different! It is easy to hold, comfortable and easy to slice between the tines. The stainless handle acts as a deodorizer to remove onion and garlic odor from your hands. An all around winner.

Whenever I slice tomatoes, they’re always too thick. One solution to the problem is a “”kitchen guillotine”” but they’re expensive and require great care in use and cleaning. Although this item designed to work with onions and potatoes, it also works well with “”more meat”” tomatoes, providing uniformly thin slices.Pros: Has a nice heft without being too heavy, metal spines don’t deform, cleans up nicely in the dishwasher, low price and good quality makes this a great value for the money.Cons: Pointy ends are sharp, so caution in storage and use is important. You don’t want to reach into the kitchen tool drawer and accidentally prick your finger.Comment: In use, I have the tendency to press down and eliminate the space necessary for the knife to get through to the other side. Fortunately, it’s easy to pull it back up a bit to continue.Recommendation: This has been an excellent addition to the kitchen tool drawer. Highly recommended!

When a relative got cut with a knife I did some research on what would be the most effective way to not get cut. Gloves would not protect against stabbing and other solutions still would risk having fingers in the way of the knife. This holder does not pose a risk.The key to use it is to have the food and the holder firmly attached, and firmly grabbed with your hand so nothing would slip out of place. Once it is firmly placed, start cutting.In my case I tested with an onion. The onion made me cry horribly and I could only open the eyes to place the knife in starting position and then I had to close my eyes while cutting. Can you imagine cutting with closed eyes? And the results were good. After I sliced the onion I needed smaller fragments, so I took the slices and used the holder again and started cutting along the line formed by the pins. Also with closed eyes.If it is firm when you start, and there is no risk of slipping, you can cut with closed eyes.I will need to do further testing, but as far as it is about me, it is the best solution to prevent cuts.I bought two units and gave it to the relative that suffered the cuts and that relative was very happy with the product. So it is not one but two people being happy with the product.I see there is a negative review of the product. Whatever limitations this product has, it is way better solution against cuts compared to other products. I did research on gloves, on finger covers, and even food processors do not deliver the same and require lots of washing. Gloves do not protect against stabbing, unless they are made of leather, but that is pricey and uncomfortable for cooking and you may need to wash them. Finger protectors require to have the proper sice for the fingers so it can be held in place, and if it falls lose by accident, that would not be good. With a food processor you will need to wash the blades.So any of these methods are an accident waiting to happen.The best safety solution is a solution where fingers are not in the way of the knife. Rule of thumb, never be in the harmful direction of anything dangerous. And this holder is the best tool for that. If you find a better solution, let me know.
